What to expect if you miss a check-in

Snug sends a few helpful notifications to make sure you check-in:

  • 3 Hours Before Check-In Time - Silent push notification
  • 1 Hour Before Check-In Time - Regular push notification
  • 10 Minutes Before Check-In Time - Regular push notification
  • Check-In Time - Regular push notification and text message
  • 2 Minutes After Check-In Time - Regular push notification and text message
  • 10 Minutes after your missed check-in – Snug notifies your emergency contacts

Depending on the your smartphone’s preferences, regular notifications and text messages may be silenced. To change this, please consult the resources below:


If you have not checked in 10 minutes after your check-in time:


Basic Plan (Free!)

Snug will send a text message to each of your emergency contacts with your last known location. It is up to them to reach out to you to make sure you’re ok.


Dispatch Plan ($19.99/mo or $199.99/yr)

  1. A Snug Dispatcher will call you directly to check if you're ok.
  2. If you don't answer, they will call each of your emergency contacts in order until someone either confirms you're ok, or agrees to check on you.
  3. If the dispatcher is unable to get confirmation that someone will look in on you, they will contact your local 911 dispatcher to request that first responders perform a wellness check to your last known location.

What is a wellness check?

A wellness check, also known as a welfare check, is when local law enforcement, fire or EMS stop by a person’s home to make sure they are okay. Our dispatchers will only request a wellness check if they cannot get in touch with you or your emergency contacts, after two attempts.

What should your emergency contacts do?

Before a missed check-in ever happens, it's important to have a plan in place. Talk with your emergency contacts ahead of time to make sure they understand how Snug works and share your preferences:

  • Who they should contact first
  • How long to wait before escalating,
  • Where they can find important information like spare keys, pet details, or medical details

Having this information readily available can make a big difference in their ability to respond effectively.


What should you do if you accidentally miss your check-in?

All you need to do is check in with Snug ASAP by using the Snug app or by calling +1 (844) 243-9110 from any phone. Snug will automatically notify your emergency contacts that you are OK via text message.

Dispatch Plan Users:

If you do not tap the button in the Snug app after missing your check in, you will receive another call from Snug Dispatch in 15 minutes!


I missed my check-in on Monday. Why did I not get a reminder to check-in on Tuesday?

Snug does not reset the countdown after you miss a checkin. To reset the system, tap the green button in the Snug app to check-in again.
