What is a wellness check?
A wellness check, sometimes called a welfare check, is a request for local first responders to visit someone and check whether they are safe. Depending on the location and circumstances, the responding agency may be law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, or another local service.
When Snug Dispatch may request a wellness check
Wellness-check coordination is a Dispatch Plan feature.
A Snug dispatcher will request a wellness check when the customer has not checked in and either:
- Two rounds of calls to the customer and emergency contacts have not confirmed that the customer is safe or that someone will check on them; or
- An emergency contact reached by the dispatcher asks for a wellness check
Snug Dispatch can coordinate wellness checks only within the United States.
Local agencies decide how to respond
Snug can request a wellness check, but it cannot guarantee that first responders will be sent or when they will arrive. Local emergency agencies make their own decisions based on their policies, available information, and current priorities.
Some agencies may decline or deprioritize a request when a missed check-in is the only indication that something may be wrong.
If you confirm the customer is safe after a wellness-check request
If the customer is confirmed safe after a wellness check has been requested, call Snug Dispatch as soon as possible at (801) 781-6101. Snug can try to pass the update to the responding agency, but cancellation is not guaranteed – first responders may still arrive.
