How Snug uses and protects your location

Snug uses your phone's location to provide helpful information after a missed check-in and to make sure your check-in deadline uses the correct time zone. Snug is not a real-time location-tracking service and does not keep a history of everywhere you have been.

When Snug gathers location

When the required permission is enabled, Snug attempts to update your location:

Approximately every four hours
When you check in
After you miss a check-in

Phone settings, connectivity, battery state, and operating-system restrictions can affect whether Snug receives a current location.

What Snug stores

Snug stores your most recent available location so it can be used if you miss your next check-in. Snug does not keep a history of your previous locations.

Each new successful update replaces the previously stored location.

How location may be shared

After a missed check-in:

With the Free Plan, Snug includes your most recent available location as a Google Maps link in the SMS alert to your emergency contacts
With the Dispatch Plan, a dispatcher may use your most recent available location when trying to confirm your safety or coordinate a wellness check
Relevant location information may be shared with local emergency services or first responders when needed to help locate you

If Snug cannot gather a location, the missed-check-in process still continues without it.

How Snug protects location information

Snug does not sell or rent your location data
Access is limited to authorized Snug personnel who need the information to provide the service or support your account
Location is shared only as needed for the safety and response purposes described above

Recommended location permissions

For the most useful recent location, use these settings:

iPhone: Always with Precise Location on
Android: Allow all the time with precise location enabled when available
